Installing the Captain's Chair
Scott's mom generously donated the "captain's chairs" from her old minivan. I installed one behind the wheel and another one behind that for a passenger.
Here is Scott, helping me to position the chair for the best placement and fit.
This is the platform I built to raise the captain's chair from minivan height to school bus/motorhome height.
We placed a thick piece of plywood over the platform to create a solid floor and marked where the cross-beams were so we could bolt the chair to the beams for a sturdy hold. Then we positioned the platform with the chair behind the wheel and bolted everything down.
Here is the view of the driver's area with the new Captain's Chair in place.
The captain's chair swivels outward to make it easier to squeeze between the chair and the wheel. Because the pedals are so far under the dash, I had to place the chair very close to the wheel. This made the swivel feature very important.
Another view from the cabin area of the chair swiveled out.
A close up view of the captain's chair swiveled out, from the point of view from the front door.
