The InnKeeper once again flew 3000 miles for a sci-fi convention, Baycon. This year, however, Amphigorey also graduated from University of San Francisco State with a Bachelor's Degree in Costume Design! There really aren't that many con pics, I didn't see too many interesting costumes this year, but there are some of my new Fire Elf, plus Corpsefairy's graduation and a trip to the Winchester Mystery House for Starchy's first visit and Corpsefairy's second ... with their own personal tour guide of course!

So let me tell you a little about the "Escher" hotel. Baycon moved from the Doubletree in San Jose, where it's been for more than 20 years, to a smaller hotel in San Mateo, due to the Doubletree wanting a better-paying client that weekend. Fortunately, Baycon won't be at this hotel next year, but it was quite the experience! The San Mateo Marriott has an unusual layout. Let's say you're on the first floor and you want to attend some panels. You take the stairs just past the check-in desk to the second floor. You go down the hallway and make a left, where you will see the Information Desk on your left. Then you make another left and go down the hall. Then you take 4 steps, go down the hall and make another left. Now you are on the third floor. Continue down the hall, make another left, go down that hall and make another left, and you will find the Con Suite on the third floor. Go past that and make a right, take the elevator back down to the second floor, and you will find yourself on the "hidden" second floor with half of the panels, but not the same second floor you saw when you took the stairs.
Seriously, I'm not kidding. This is actually the correct path with no exaggerations. While at Baycon, I heard "Hotel Escher", "Hotel Labrynth" and "Hotel Tartis". "The Escher Hotel" and varients ended up being the unanimous favorite nickname for the San Mateo Marriott. Now you understand the poster above.
